MINKAHZ NETS MISSION

We’re a non-profit organization dedicated to connecting and educating high grade neuroendocrine cancer patients around the world.

Think of us as a loving lap dog when it comes to all things high grade neuroendocrine tumors and neuroendocrine carcinoma. We’ve built a community where patients and caretakers can stay informed and help one another along the way.

WHAT ARE HIGH GRADE NEUROENDOCRINE CANCERS?

High grade neuroendocrine cancers (tumors and carcinomas) are extremely rare, accounting for less than one percent of all malignant disorders in the United States.

They can only be accurately diagnosed when a pathologist examines a tissue sample using specialized stains that help clarify the cells’ subtype.

Minkahz Nets Mission was built specifically for patients and caregivers that fall into this category. We know from experience that knowledge regarding high grade neuroendocrine cancer is fragmented and inconsistent. Our hope is to bring clarity and share the latest information, with an intent to improve the lives of those diagnosed as well as their caregivers.

What’s with all the zebras?

In medicine, the term “zebra” is used in reference to a rare disease or condition.

“When you hear hoofbeats, think of horses not zebras.” This phrase is told to medical students throughout their training. Doctors are taught to assume that the simplest explanation is usually the best, so they don’t go around diagnosing patients with exotic illnesses that are highly unlikely. Common diseases are what doctors should expect to encounter.

But many doctors forget that “zebras” exist and therefore getting a diagnosis and treatment can be more difficult for sufferers of rare diseases like high grade neuroendocrine cancers.
